Archives for August 2015
During my recent book haul, I found a book called The Innings and Outs of Baseball by Jordan D. Brown. I had intended to grab it for my son who is an excellent reader but gets bored fairly quickly. I handed him this one and he read it, in its entirety, within half an hour. I sat with him as he completed it and listened to him commentate the book to me as if it were a lesson that he had planned out for me and together we talked about some of the terminology in the book and other fun facts that he learned. He said it was funny and that he learned a lot from it. That’s what I like to hear. Anytime we can learn something and enjoy doing it means mission accomplished.
I tried to find all of the books in this series. Below is a list of the ones I could locate on Amazon. Most can be purchased as hard cover, paperback, or on Kindle.
~ The Thrills and Chills of Amusement Parks
~ The Cool Story Behind Snow
~ Pulling Back the Curtain on Magic
~ The High Score and Lowdown on Video Games
~ The Stellar Story of Space Travel
~ The Sugary Secrets Behind Candy
~ Science Stunts: Fun Feats of Physics
~ Other Science Titles by Jordan D. Brown
This book is going to be fun. I’m pulling together resources to allow my son, age 8, and daughter, age 11, to perform the experiments in it and also incorporate other subjects. As my daughter is older, her unit will be a little more extensive in research and will have added experiments and labs. This will be an ongoing post, as I will add resources as we begin each new chapter.
