Miss Sphinx hates math. That is nothing new to me. This year, I am going into the concept of “Real Life” Math with Miss Sphinx. Hopefully, this will spark more of an interest, if it doesn’t, tough cookies. Math is must learn science and will be taught at Hawkins Academy by any means necessary. Here are some resources I’ve found:

In true Hawkins Academy fashion, Mama Sphinx has taken this opportunity to turn life into education. Along with taking Martial Arts classes, I want to incorporate this into daily lessons. We will learn the terminology, we will learn some vocabulary, we will learn the history of the art. I think that this will not only keep the Sphinxes interested but it will also make this an all-around educational experience as well.

Baby Sphinx is reading more than ever these days so it’s time for her spotlight! Our newest series will be the books that she will read each week. Follow along as she progresses. This week are all Level 1 finds from the library. We started with Buzzz said the Bee and she knew more of the words than I expected. By the third time, she pretty much read the book on her own! So proud of our Baby Girl. Baby Sphinx is only 3 years old.

It’s the end of the year, some of us are wrapping up for the holidays, some wrapping up for the year. As we wind down 2014, I thought I’d find some hands-on activities that the children can learn from. During my recent Library Haul, I found a few books that I think will fit the bill!
Found this book at the library. Going to read through it this weekend to create some materials to go with it.
